Autograph letter signed : Abbotsford near Melrose, to [the Secretary to the Royal Society of Literature], 1827 Apr. 10.

Thanking him for a letter acquainting him with the fact that the Council of the Royal Society of Literature has issued Scott an honorary medal in recognition of his "attempts to illustrate the manners, antiquities, and History of Scotland." Noting that his son-in-law J. G. Lockhart would accept the medal on Scott's behalf on 27 April.
